A basin of fields and villages ringed by limestone peaks, best viewed from Na Lay hill.
Bac Son is a valley surrounded by limestone mountains, with fields and small villages in the middle. A viewpoint on Na Lay hill shows the patchwork from above, and it looks its best in late summer, when the rice turns gold around September.
It is a good day trip from Lang Son or a stop between Hanoi and Cao Bang. Allow 2 to 4 hours for the viewpoint and a walk through a village.
