Nha Trang Overview

Nha Trang has a long city beach, island-filled bay and a Cham tower complex, all close together. It suits first-timers, families and divers who want a full beach holiday with plenty to do.

Highlights of Nha Trang:

  • Island-hopping day tours: Full-day boat trips combine snorkeling, a beach stop and lunch. Book a day ahead and check the sea forecast.
  • Po Nagar Cham Towers: Visit the ancient Cham towers north of the center in the early morning. Dress modestly with covered shoulders and knees.
  • Mud baths and hot springs: Take a half-day wellness stop north of the center. Book a package if you want transport included.
  • Local seafood: Try Nha Trang fish noodle dishes and grilled seafood. Check weight and price before you order.

Best Time to Visit: Feb – Aug is sunny and dry with calmer seas. Oct – Dec is the rainy season, and storms can cancel island trips. Jul – Aug is hot and busy with domestic school holidays.

Book island tours a day ahead; boats can be cancelled in rough seas.

Where to stay in Nha Trang

Where to base yourself, by travel style.

  • Tran Phu Beachfront

Best for first-timers: on the sand with restaurants and cafes along the seaside road. Busy and loud at night.

  • Central Backpacker Streets

Budget rooms, bars and tour desks, a short walk from the beach. Pick rooms away from the bars.

  • Bai Dai (Cam Ranh)

Long, quiet beach near the airport for resort stays. 20 – 30 min from the center with few local eateries.

Getting to Nha Trang

Times, costs and booking links.

Step 1: Fly to Nha Trang (CXR) Land at Cam Ranh, then ride 45 min to Nha Trang

Cam Ranh Airport handles flights from Saigon (about 1 hr) and Hanoi (about 1 hr 45 min), plus some international routes. It is in Cam Ranh, about 30 – 38km south of Nha Trang.

  • Visa: Many nationalities get a 45-day visa-free stay, and others can apply for an e-visa (up to 90 days) at evisa.gov.vn. Rules change, so check the official portal before you fly.
  • SIM/eSIM: Buy a tourist SIM or eSIM at your first Vietnam airport (Saigon, Hanoi or Da Nang) before you fly on.
  • Cash: Get dong from an ATM at your first airport. Small shops, local eateries and scooter rentals often prefer cash.
  • Flights: One-way fares run about $30 – $80 when booked two weeks ahead. Vietjet is often cheapest, but check baggage.
  • Onward transport: Taxi or Grab takes about 45 min and costs roughly 250,000 – 400,000 VND ($10 – $16). Dat Moi Bus 18 costs 75,000 VND (100,000 VND for the limousine). Ignore drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
