Highlights of Hoi An:
- Old Town walk: Buy the Old Town ticket to enter heritage houses and assembly halls. Go early morning or after dinner for smaller crowds.
- Local food: Try cao lau, banh mi and white rose dumplings at local stalls. Choose places that show prices.
- Tailor-made clothes: Order on day one so you have time for fittings. Ask for fabric samples and agree the price before you start.
- Cooking class or basket boat: Book a cooking class with a market visit, or a basket-boat ride in the coconut forest, a day ahead.
Best Time to Visit: Feb – May is dry, sunny and warm. Sep – Dec is the wet season, and heavy rain can flood parts of the old town. Jun – Aug is hot and busier.

Da Nang Airport is only about 3km from the city center, so the ride takes 10 – 15 min. Beach hotels at My Khe are 5 – 8km away (10 – 20 min).
- Best option: Grab shows the fare in the app before you book. Metered taxis (Mai Linh, Vinasun) also work; check the meter is running when you set off.
- Price note: There is no official airport taxi tariff, so short rides vary. Confirm the fare in the app or on the meter.
- Public bus: Do not rely on a public airport bus. Touts have pushed travelers into expensive taxis, so use Grab or an official taxi.
Step 2: Shuttle to Hoi An

A shared shuttle is the best value for solo travelers; a private transfer or Grab suits pairs and families. There is no reliable public bus.
- Shared shuttle: Minivans cost about 120,000 – 250,000 VND ($5 – $10) per person and drop at the old town or your hotel.
- Private transfer: From about 250,000 VND ($10) per car. Pre-book for a fixed price.
- Grab or taxi: A Grab car costs about 280,000 – 380,000 VND ($11 – $15); metered fares are slightly higher.
- Arrival tip: Vehicles are restricted in parts of the old town. Ask for a drop-off close to your hotel.
