Khmer pagodas with golden roofs, including the Bat Pagoda, a day trip from Can Tho.
Soc Trang has one of the largest Khmer communities in the Mekong Delta, and its pagodas are known for gold decoration and carved roofs. The Bat Pagoda (Chua Doi) is home to a colony of fruit bats, and Kh'leang Pagoda is also well known.
Bats usually fly out at dusk, and some visitors report that numbers are smaller than in the past. It is about 60 km from Can Tho, so a day trip with an early start works well.
