A dormant volcano with a crater you can walk around, famous for its wild sunflower bloom in November.
Chu Dang Ya is a dormant volcano about 30 km north of Pleiku. The crater and slopes are covered with wild sunflowers, called da quy, that bloom around November each year and turn the hillside yellow. Outside the bloom the hill is green, and you can still walk around the crater rim.
It is part of the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourism area. Come early in the morning or late in the afternoon for the best photographs and cooler air. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours, and bring a hat and water.
