Overview
Cua Tung is a wide beach at the mouth of the Ben Hai River in Vinh Linh, about 30 km north of Dong Ha. The sand is fine and the slope is gentle. It has few facilities, so it suits a quiet rest after the sights of the old DMZ.
Waves can be strong. At the start of May 2026 four visitors had to be pulled from the surf by rescuers and local people, so swim only where lifeguards or locals do, and never in rough weather. The shoreline has also been eroding since the early 2000s, so the beach looks different from older photos. The best months are December to April. May and June are very hot, and September and October often bring storms.
