Overview

The Vinh Moc Tunnels were dug by villagers in the 1960s, when the coast near the 17th parallel was under heavy bombing. Whole families lived underground for years, in a system of tunnels on several levels with living rooms, a clinic, wells and a meeting hall. Some exits open directly toward the sea, and children were born inside.

You walk a section of the tunnels with a guide or on your own. The passages are narrow and low, so be ready to stoop. The site has a small museum at the entrance and a short walk to the beach. A typical visit takes 1 to 1.5 hours.
